Netflix Series Review: Happiness. Is It Worth Watching?

An apocalyptic thriller that takes place in a time in which infectious diseases have become the new norm.

Synopsis

Happiness takes place in the near future, where the release of a failed Covid-19 treatment drug called "Next" has caused a worldwide pandemic known as the Rita Virus, a.k.a "mad person disease". Those infected by Rita experience short bouts of insanity and bloodlust, before completely regressing into a zombie-like state.

The South Korean Military and Police forces are trying to contain the spread of Rita and Next through extensive investigation and authoritative quarantine measures. At the same time, civil rights groups protest against them, believing the infected are still capable of normal human interaction.

My Comment

This series is just brilliant. Thrilling and exciting and I swear every episode is just so surprising, that you won't be able to stop watching it. The story depicts human nature perfectly and how they struggle and battle to survive a world pandemic whilst the greed of some takes over.

The show is well-balanced and feels fresh. There are constant surprises and fresh developments in the plot of Happiness. With people being quarantined in their apartments, it looks like much won't happen, but a lot happens.

The characters seem to realise how quickly life can fall apart even with multiple precautions in place. However, despite how despair may be around every corner, we still have choices to make.

Happiness is about the struggle of each human to find out what actual “happiness” means for them. At the start of the drama, everyone's ordinary lives collapse in an instant with the emergence of an unimaginable infectious disease, much like when COVID-19 happened and the world was on lockdown, we had to learn what happiness and contentment meant for us. Overall this is definitely a series worth watching.
